I love true crime – these days, who doesn’t? I grew up watching Law & Order SVU and I have continued to binge watch any and every crime documentary and true-crime series I could access. As much as I love these shows/movies and my Bravo Housewives, there are times when I need a break from all the murder and arguing to watch something light and funny. Or, at the very least, something that is wrapped up in a bow at the end of each episode. If you need a break and you want something light and uplifting, these are my top picks right now:

  1. Hart of Dixie (Also available on Apple TV) – This is an oldie but a goodie. I love the fashion in the show and the light-hearted drama. If you’re looking for a deeper plot line, which you likely are not if you want to just relax, you will not find it here. I love the small town setting for the series because it feels comfortable who wouldn’t want to live in a cute town where people barely work but somehow make a living?
  2. Ginny & Georgia – I call this type of show my “teen drama” because the plot reminds me of the type of show that I would watch in high school or junior high. If you enjoyed Hart of Dixie, you’ll find this series familiar. It has a similar feel to it but I think that the humor and other themes are a bit stronger. I find myself laughing out loud while watching, which is always a good sign.
  3. Gilmore Girls – I did re-watch this entire series for what I think is the third time. I watched it in the fall leading into the winter, which was a great choice because it is just a cozy show and pairs so well with flickering candles and warm coffee. The love in the small town and in the character relationships is an instant mood booster. It’s always nice to watch a show or movie where nothing truly awful ever happens.
  4. Greek – I think this show is accessible even if you weren’t involved with Greek life in college. I didn’t join a sorority until my final few years of college, so this show doesn’t even seem familiar to my own experience in Greek life but it is such a fun and playful depiction of college which fees nostalgic to watch. Watching this show, I kept thinking of all of my awesome collegiate experiences and memories, and it was nice to relive those moments.
  5. Working Moms – I wasn’t sold on this show at first, and some of the initial plot stressed me out (I’m triggered by infidelity and plot lines that focus on it) but it also was a riot and I loved the women portrayed in this series. I felt empowered by the strong female relationships and the range of relationships shown that are more realistic than what is often shown. Sometimes it feels like all female friendships shown on shows are really close and sisterly when there is such a wider spectrum of types of relationships that women have with one another. This show did a great job of highlighting women that exhibited realistic and relatable levels of strength and shining a light on how female relationships take a variety of forms.

These are just my top 5 favorite easy breezy picks for light-hearted watching. As new series come out, I will write another review and share!
